The voice that catapulted to fame with ‘Puli Urumbuthu’ in ‘Vettaikaran’ had to wait for a decade for proper recognition. Ananthu – the singer of this toe-tapping song – sang his maiden song for Sirpi a decade ago.
He has sung for almost all composers but it was too long a wait to get due recognition. Ananthu met music director Vijay Antony for a project who asked him to send a demo CD and satisfied with it, fixed him for Karan’s ‘Kangavel Kakka’. But he created a niche in the hearts of music lovers with ‘Puli Urumbuthu’, a peppy number.
Overawed by Ananthu’s voice, Srikant Deva has given him a chance to sing in one of his films. Ananthu has been singing tracks for all the bigwigs of the industry and it was said of him that he could render a song so correctly that he would be asked to coach the popular singers during recording.
Ananthu has performed in countless stage shows and is capable of singing any genre of songs. Ask for a song from yesteryear till the latest release, and he can render it with great accuracy. He has been with doyen music director M S Viswanathan for nearly 12 years. “Ananthu has immense talent. He should shine some day,” MSV told me once he says.
