B. Ganapathy Raman, an excellent percussionist, was initiated into Carnatic music by his father Shri. Sethalapathy R. Balasubramanian, a direct disciple of the prolific Tamizh composer Shri Papanasam Sivan. He initially learnt from Kalaimamani Srimusham Raja Rao and, Vidwan Nagai S. Soundararjan.
Later, he became a disciple of Laya Sidhdhar, Kumbakonam Rajappa Iyer. Ganapathi Raman who has accompanied many eminent musicians of today, is a graded artist of the All India Radio, Chennai, and has won several awards.
Ganapathy Raman's house has always been a favourite haunt of artistes. On this occasion too he plays a perfect host and takes time to unveil the path he has covered since childhood. The horizontal stripes of the vibhuti and the parabolic gobi chandan adorning his broad forehead with geometric precision makes you wonder whether he uses a mould.
