Velmurugan - Profiles of Cine Play Back Singers

Velmurugan is a playback singer and also lyricist fondly called with the nick name as Velu / Gnana Velu. He was born on 05.03.1980 to Dhanasekaran and Amirthambal in Mudhanai village, Virudachalam Post & Taluk, Cuddalore District, Tamilnadu. His wife is Kala. He has a brother named Periyasamy. His mother tongue is Tamil. He completed his schooling in Govt. Boys Hr. Sec. School, Mudhanai (up to 10th std.) and 11th & 12th std. Govt. Boys Hr. Sec. School, Virudachalam. He was graduated in Diploma in Music & DMT (Dip In Music Teacher Training) and D.E.E.

He was introduced by Music Director James Vasanthan on 09.05.2007. His debut song was Madurai Kulunga (Film: Subramaniyapuram) which was his turning point. He sung more than 15 songs and 1 in Telugu. He has composed for albums namely Thaai paasam, Solak kollai , Poonjsolai, Karisak kaadu, Themmaangu Paattukkaaran. He also learnt playing Miruthangam, Violin, Tappu. He also worked as a reporter for ‘Naveena Velanmai’  magazine. The albums produced by him are Solak kollai , Poonjsolai, Karisak kaadu, Themmaangu Paattukkaaran.

The awards he received are Puraskar award for young folk singer ( Delhi ), State award for folk song competition-2001  presented by Chief Minister  M.Karunanidhi, District award for song competition - 5 times.
