Jayam Ravi is an Indian film actor. He is a martial arts expert. Before acting, Ravi had been an assistant director to Suresh Krishna in the 2001 film Aalavandhan. He was also involved in several discussions and scenes for his brother's directional venture Velayudham.

Jayam Ravi is one hero who has the conventional good looks and has undergone all formal training to become an actor. He debuted with Jayam, a remake of the Telugu movie Jayam released in 2002 produced by his father Editor Mohan and directed by his brother M. Raja. (Hence, the name 'Jayam' Ravi.)

His next venture was M. Kumaran son of Mahalakshmi, a remake of the Telugu movie Amma Nanna O Tamila Ammayi in 2004. Then came Daas which was followed by Mazhai, a remake of the Telugu movie Varsham. His next was Idhaya Thirudan under director Saran. Something Something ... Unakkum Enakkum , the remake of the Telugu hit Nuvvostanante Nenoddantana which hit the screens in July 2006 turned out to be a big hit.

Trisha Krishnan reprised her role in the Tamil version alongside Ravi in the film. With the magical combination of the director-brother duo, the success was repeated. His next film Deepavali under director Ezhil's direction released on 9 February 2007. This film which saw him pairing with actress Bhavana was a moderate hit.

This film was the maiden production venture of successful director Lingusamy. After this came Santosh Subramaniam under his lucky mascot and brother M. Raja's direction. This film which released on 12 April 2008 has been termed a blockbuster with both classes and mass audiences lapping it up.

Jayam Ravi's Dhaam Dhoom which is the last directorial venture of the late cinematographer-director Jeeva was released on 29 August 2008 and the film has gt a good opening yet.]The shooting of Peranmai with successful director SP Jhananathan is happening at a fast pace and this film has Jayam Ravi sporting a rugged look, much unlike his earlier films.

Family Background

Ravi was born on 10 September 1978 as Ravi Mohan to Mohan, editor of South Indian cinema and Varalakshmi in a Balija family. He has two siblings; his elder brother M. Raja is a noted film director, with most of his films featuring Ravi in the lead role, while his sister Roja is a dentist.

Educational Qualification & Sports

He completed his schooling at Jawahar Vidyalaya in Ashok Nagar, Chennai. He studied dancing under the Bharatnatyam dancer Nalini Balakrishnan and performed his arangetram at the age of 12. After completing his degree in Visual Communication from Loyola College, Chennai, he decided to get into the film industry. He has also undergone training in acting at the Kishore Namit Kapur Institute in Mumbai.
