Reihana is a playback singer and film composer for films in India. However she is more widely known as sister to, A. R. Rahman and mother of G. V. Prakash Kumar. She collaborated with Rahman on a song for the score of the award winning Kannathil Muthamittal in 2002. The most recent song she has sung is Kedakkari from Raavanan. She also sang the most controversial song from the movie Chocklet. Her husband is Venkatesh.
Reihana started her career in music by singing for her brother. But, gradually over the years she has transitioned from being a singer to a full-fledged music director for Tamil films. Reihana’s first film as music director was Machi, and her second is the recently released film Aadatha Attamellam. Songs from her new film have already rocketed to the top Tamil songs billboard. It was about 5-6 years ago that Reihana started her music lessons. She continues to learn Carnatic and Hindustani music, and has her own recording studio in Chennai. While working on her album Ringaram Reihana got her first break from Director Madesh in his film Choclat. Her song Malai Malai was an instant hit. After that she got her first break as a music director for Machi.
Reihana is currently working on a multi-lingual album. You can expect to hear a lot more from her in the future. Her father was a music director and he died when she was a small girl. Naturally, she has love for music and began to sing for many films. Her brother and music director A.R.Rahman used to give chances to sing along with the chorus in his films.
