Profiles of Lyricist

Debuting in the film Aanandham with lyrics for the song Pallankuzhiyin vattam parthaen has become a successful lyricist penning more than 1000 songs. Yugabharathi Studied in Maxwell Matriculation Higher Secondary school and then did Diploma in Mechanical Engineering at Government Polytechnic College (Aranthangi).

Some of the songs which were hit for which Yugabharathi has penned the lyrics are 'Kadhal pisase' from Run, 'Manmada Rasa' from Thiruda Thirudi, 'Konja neram' from Chandramukhi. His original name was 'prem kumar' and called as 'kumar' by his family and friends. During early 90's when he began writing poems for magazines he started using pen name as 'yugabharathi' in fond of great Tamil poet mahakavi bharithiyar.

Yugabharathi, who wrote four out of the five songs in the film, says that Prabu Solomon wasn't too keen on having the ‘Jingu chikka …' song. “Music director Imman and I had to convince him, since the director felt the number was a commercial element. Thankfully it turned out to be a big hit,” he smiles. After finishing his Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Yugabharathi worked as a journalist in a Tamil magazine.

It was at that time ‘Manapathayam,' a compilation of Yugabharathi's poems, caught the attention of director Lingusamy. The latter gave him a break through the song ‘Pallankuzhiyin vattam parthaen…' in the film ‘Aanandham.'

Then followed a series of super hit numbers including, ‘Kadhal Pisase….,' (Run) ‘Manmadha Raasa…' (Thiruda Thirudi), ‘Konja neram…' (Chandramukhi) and Yugabharathi's career graph took an upswing. Yugabharathi cherishes the experience of having worked with maestro Ilayaraja in the forthcoming film ‘Azhagarsamiyin Kudhirai.'
