Shri K.Govindarajan, popularly known as ‘Cuddalore’Gopi Bhagavathar. He was attracted to ‘Nama Sankeerthanam’ at the tender age of seven and was much impressed by the Sampradhaya Bhajans of Brahmashri Venkatrama Bhagavathar of Thiruvidaimarudhur and Kumbakonam Shri Balu Bhagavathar and was deeply involved in the Sampradhaya Bhajans. At the age of eleven, he involved himself in ‘Neyveli Padmalaya’ a renowned group in this arena led by Nedukkaveri Shri Krishnamoorthy Bhagavathar.

Cuddalore Shri Gopi Bhagavathar has performed Sampradhaya Radha Kalyanams and Seetha Kalyanams for more than two decades at various places in Tamilnadu. Shri Gopi Bhagavathar is an ardent devotee of Paranur Shri Krishnapremi Swamigal and with his blessings in the year 2000 alone he has rendered 108 Bhajans.

In the year 2000 he formed ‘Sri Bhagavan Naama Prachara Mandali’ with the bountiful blessings of Paranur Shri Krishnapremi Swamigal. In order to inculcate and involve the younger generations into Nama Sankeerthanam and invoke Bhakthi amongst young minds, he presented a unique style of Bhajan known as ‘ANUKARANA BHAJANS’ in a dramatised form. This innovative mode was accepted and was also widely appreciated. This style of Nama Sankeerthanam not only explains the essence of the song but also makes the viewers comfortable in understanding the exact meaning of the song.

His mandali’s ‘Sri Panduranga Leelai’ as an Abhang Bhajan in a dramatised form has been very well received by the public and they have performed more than 800 shows till date not only within Tamilnadu but throughout India. Apart from Sri Panduranga Leelai their ‘Bhadrachala Ramadas’ was also widely acclaimed.

Shri K.R. Subrahmany, an HR Consultant by profession takes a major role in all the programmes and they form a perfect duo. “Sri Panduranga Leelai” has been performed for more than 1005 programmes at various places in our country

Cuddalore Shri Gopi Bhagavathar is blessed by saints namely His Holiness Kanchi Kamakoti Swamigal, Paranur Shri Krishnapremi Swamigal, Guruji Muralidhara Swamigal, Mysore Shri Ganapathy Sachidananda Swamigal etc.,

Their Mandali conducts annual ‘BHAJAN MELA’ during April-May to propagate Naama Sankeerthanam. They conduct Mela in various parts of India and started from his home town Cuddalore, Neyveli, Tirupathy, Udipi, Thiruvisainallur, Puri (Orissa) and Govindapuram (Tamilnadu). Cuddalore Shri Gopi Bhagavathar is a Senior Manager in a nationalised bank. Sow Radhika enacts the female role in all his performances with aplomb.

‘Cuddalore’ Gopi Bhagavathar was born in the year 1961 at Cuddalore. He got 2 daughters, Sow. Radhika and Kum. Sruthika.

Awards & Titles

Shri Gopi Bhagavathar has been conferred with the title “BHAJAN BUSHAN” by Marathi Association in the year 2007 at Chennai.
