Anu Malik is a leading music director in the Bollywood film industry. He is the judge of the well known program Indian Idol from 2005 till present. He has worked as a music director for more than 350 films. He received National Award for his works in the film Refugee. Some international projects add credit to him.

He was born on 2nd November 1960. His father Sardar Malik is a veteran composer. Pandit Ram Prasad Sharma was his music teacher. His wife name is Anju Malik. He has two daughters. His debut film was Hunterwali in 1977. Though he got recognition for the film Sohni Mahiwal, Ganga Jamuna Saraswati, Jeete Hain Shaan Se, he could not get much works until 1980s. His works in the film Baazigar in 1992 won him the prestigious Filmfare Award. In 1992 he worked in some films like Phir Teri Kahani Yaad Aaye, Jaanam, Sir, Tehelka, Chamatkar, Maa, etc. He showed the versatility of works in the movies like Mujhe Kuch Kehna Hai, Aks, Fiza, Fihaal, etc.

He had given music to all kinds of films. His choice of singers and lyricists is also his specialty. When his peers preferred mainstream singers and popular lyricists, he always tried different persons. Some of the lead singers in his films who add variety to his songs are Sonu Nigam, KK, Alisha Chinai and Kunal Ganjawala. His association with Alisha Chinai is very successful. Also his collaborations with J.P. Dutta created major hits.

He remained the judge in the TV show accompanied by Sonu Nigam and Farah khan in the first two seasons. He was accompanied by Alisha Chinai, Udit Narayan and Javed Akhtar in the third. He also worked as a judge in the Asian Idol held in Indonesia.

Awards & Titles

He won the National Award for Best Music Direction for Refugee in the year 2001 and has received Filmfare Best Music Director Award two times for the films, Main Hoon Na in 2004 and Baazigar in 1993. His excellent contribution to music won him Special Jury Award.
